Spr1ng 1s here! Spr1ng is here! Life is sk1ttles and

L1fe is beer!

No, I haven’t been drinking; I’m just quoting. And today the pictures can tell the story, or most of it.

Yellow crocus

Well, I like snowdrops!

Won’t be long before the daffodils on the drive are out.

When I was a little girl, wild primroses were my favourite flower. I used to pick them and arrange them in a dish of water with moss to make it look as if they were still growing, for my mother.

Another crocus

I’m a fair-weather gardener, and today was perfect

The hawthorn is coming into leaf

This is the laurel still to be cut back. From this height…

…to this

But there’s one thing that makes spring complete for me,
And makes every Sunday a treat for me…
    Pigeon pie?

Primroses and hawthorn leaves are far ahead of anything here, though crocuses aren’t far off.

Could be, Stitchwort – ‘it’s not against any religion, To want to dispose of a pigeon’… nah, not really, they are full of spring happiness too.

The crocus I’ve planted aren’t in flower yet, these are growing in rough ground, self-seeded. Not all the hawthorn is as far ahead as this.

What’s Pigeon Pie? It’s not made of pigeons, surely? Ew.

If I had a garden Z it would be a jungle. I loathe gardening. Love a pretty garden but hate getting my hands messy.

The only part of my garden that gets looked after is the veg patch. Some years I do no other weeding at all. I used, in my last garden, to take a lot of trouble but here we have ground elder which is a pretty but invasive weed and 20 years of it has completely discouraged me.

The quote, of which Stitchwort put the next line, is from Poisoning Pigeons in the Part, one of Tom Lehrer’s delights.

We don’t shoot them, but pigeons are very tasty. Country ones, that is, Lord knows what you’d catch from the Trafalgar Square variety.

    ahhhh, nods to wendy.

the closest thing i did to gardening happened when i was in fourth grade during our industrial class. i ended up having a fight with a boy from my class and we rolled over the black sand with baby plants sprouting up from the earth.

ahhh, is spring the nicest time to tend a garden?

We didn’t get as much snow as London, it has been a particularly mild winter. Good gardening weather right now. More to do than I can cope with, unfortunately, don’t know what I’m going to do about it.
